MUSIC: Sun Feb 4 – Adam Kent

This Sunday’s solo piano selections anticipate a future of integration and mutuality with respect to the musical idioms of diverse cultures. Included are works by the French composers Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy that incorporate the language of such historically African American musical styles as ragtime, blues, and jazz. In the Gathering Music is a work by the Cuban-American Tania León, a tribute to the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz. Dr. León traces her ancestral roots to Africa, China, Europe, and the Caribbean and sees her work as a celebration of inclusivity and plurality. Read on for programming details.
