LGBTQ+ Pride Month gets off to a musical start at CUUC with works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Francis Poulenc, and Samuel Barber, composers from historical periods where social opprobrium, professional censure, familial rejection, and religious alienation often impacted gay and lesbian people. This Sunday’s Offertory serves up a classic bossa nova tune, which invites us to transcend gender in experiencing attraction and yearning. CUUC member Enid Press treats us to one of Igor Stravinsky Three Pieces for Clarinet as a Parting Music selection, which rejects the binary polarization of conventional tonality and metric regularity. Elsewhere, CUUC’s Choir is on hand with David Lantz III and Susan Boersma’s “Closer to the Flame.” Read on for programming details.
